The senior design team “Freight Club” is working with the Supply Chain Planning and Logistics teams of Arauco North America, a prominent distributor of wooden products. The team is tasked with reducing the costs surrounding the reactive measures that are taken to respond to various supply chain challenges. In particular, the team is focusing on improving Arauco’s current order planning process by incorporating warehouse capacity and scheduling into the decisions that influence where and how Arauco’s customer orders are fulfilled. The team’s solutions aim to help mitigate variability in Arauco’s service level performance metrics with respect to cost effectiveness while also providing planning recommendations for the short and long run. The recommendations provided by the team will also help Arauco reduce existing uncertainty in their decision-making.
