Senior design team “Detention Deflection” is working with HD Supply, a North American industrial distributor and a subsidiary of Home Depot, specifically they are working with the international team that is responsible for the shipment of containers from international origin ports to U.S. ports of entry, as well as the transportation of these containers to distribution centers across the country. They have a goal to lower container costs that are incurred due to various delays in their shipping process by forecasting expected fees and recommending cost-avoidance strategies.

The team is creating a forecasting method that will give HD Supply insight to when container costs are expected to spike, in order to proactively implement cost-avoidance strategies. The team is also creating a decision-making heuristic to recommend the most beneficial avoidance strategy to HD Supply.

“Detention Deflection” is looking forward to creating an impactful project that utilizes many aspects of ISyE’s core curriculum!
