Our team is engaged in an operations consulting project with Emory University Hospital Midtown (EUHM), a prominent member of the Emory Healthcare system. EUHM handles over 60 surgeries daily across 28 operating rooms; however, EUHM faces delays in 46% of surgeries, with 8% attributed to incomplete case carts, causing an average delay of 26 minutes. To address this, we are redesigning storage areas, developing an inventory management plan, and establishing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). The goal is to address EUHM’s ordering, stocking, picking, and auditing processes, to streamline the case cart fulfillment process and reduce surgery delays while improving inventory management.
