Description
In response to a need for real-time air quality data in Atlanta communities, LA3 Consulting designed a mobile air monitoring laboratory that will sample and analyze ambient air for the Georgia EPD. The United States Environmental Protection Agency has set standards of emissions requirements for six common air pollutants by the Clean Air Act. The Mobile Air Monitoring Laboratory from LA3 monitors these six pollutants: Carbon Monoxide, Nitrogen Oxides, Sulfur Dioxide, Ozone, Lead, and Particulate Matter. The Mobile Air Monitoring Laboratory project involves both a technical and civic engagement approach. The team used data from EPD and Atlanta community members to determine the priorities of the laboratory. The compiled information was used to select monitoring instruments and choose the layout of the vehicle. The main objectives for this project are to: connect with community organizations and members actively engaged in environmental advocacy to gather qualitative insights on pollutants of concern from Georgia citizens, conduct a comprehensive analysis of both qualitative and quantitative data to identify key pollutants that are of concern to Georgia citizens, explore the impacts of the pollutants to understand their implications on public health and the environment, and develop a technical interior design with the necessary instruments and tools.
