Description
Transvenous lead extraction surgeries are performed when patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) experience infection or device complications that require removal of the wire leads; however given how the leads can get calcified into tissue over time, the current method of lead removal poses high risk for life-threatening events (e.g. superior vena cava tear). Reducing this risk would allow for lead extraction surgeries to be more accessible to patients and performed safely.
