We are team Six Guys, and we are working with Kawneer to redesign the sliding door's sill.​
The sliding door are used worldwide and can be easily found anywhere from residential houses to commercial and industrial building . The market size of this product is very large, and it is predicted to increase more than 20% for the next 5 years.
Each year, North America alone has an average of twenty-eight strong storms, according to the data of the National Hurricane Center. During a hurricane, water tends to leak into the interior due to the high flow of water and intense winds during stormy conditions. The current sill cannot evacuate the water flow effectively, and homeowners must pay a lot of money for maintenance. There is no sill system in the current market that can effectively evacuate the overflow of water. In this project, our team will focus on the door's sill, where most of the leaking comes from. ​
After reviewing the customer requirements and engineering design specifications, our design goal is based on four main criteria which are evacuating rate, cost , manufacturing ability and structure reliability. The new design will follow the U.S building code and will be capable with the existing Kawneer structures with little modification through either cutting or drilling. ​
