In pulp and paper manufacturing, the pulping of wood chips results in a pulp with variability on many scales. Samples can vary over hours of production, within the digester that does the pulping, or within a single pulped chip. Our group aims to find a method to evaluate the breadth of the distribution within a single handful of pulp, and to understand how operating and technology changes affect pulp uniformity.
