Background / Need
The Fulton County Innovation Academy is a new magnet academy for grades 9-12 opening in Fall 2021, and is looking for innovative projects for their students to work on and improve. This project is to design and (if possible) build a base project that the school's students could take over and iterate upon year to year. Potential projects include a Solar Boat, Wind Turbine, Exercise Machine Data Collection, Drone Delivery, or other projects the team would like to develop. A local motor company plans to donate a motor and motor control system for the project, and the school will try to locate base system (eg. boat) for retrofit if needed.

This project will include documentation that students can follow to effectively take over the project at the conclusion of Capstone. Product development opportunities may exist for the team depending on the design developed and conversations/agreement with the school.

Note: This project is being run in partnership with 2 other innovation-focused schools in the Atlanta area who will also plan to build versions of the team's final design, so the schools can all work together.

Concept
Solar Boat:
Retrofit of existing Jon Boat style watercraft (or similar) for use with a solar power drive system. This would include electric outboard motor design, power system integration/monitoring, and boat retrofit. Motor (~25HP), motor controller, batteries, and model boat can be provided. Specifications would be developed by the team based on existing high school level solar boat competitions.
