Description
The scaled production of brittle ceramic hollow fibers used in membrane-based separation technologies is a critical and unresolved manufacturing challenge. The shortcomings of the current experimental coated fiber production setup, mainly leakage during the fiber feeding process, prevent the HARRiS Lab at Georgia Tech from increasing throughput, maintaining coating uniformity across multiple fibers, and operating safely with strongly alkaline coating solutions. The objective of this project is to design a leakproof solution bath that integrates into the current existing semi-continuous fiber feed system. Achieving this will enable higher coating efficiency, and scalable parallel processing of a minimum of six fibers at once.
