Description
In Southwire’s Continuous Casting Process, a metering pin controls the flow rate of molten copper deposited from the holding furnace into the casting component. Over time, this metering pin corrodes from the exposure to molten copper, which causes the pin to physically break and leech impurities into the copper bars being produced. The majority of Southwire’s copper bars are turned into electrical wiring, where the presence of impurities can break the wire when it’s thinned out or change its electrical conductivity. Our team has been tasked with creating a new metering pin that will have a longer lifespan than the current pin.
