Description
This project focuses on declassifying the Lakewood Park Dam by removing the existing impoundment and culvert and replacing them with a widened bridge and restored natural stream channel. A major emphasis is constructability. The design maintains a four-lane roadway and active 24-inch water line throughout construction while sequencing demolition, excavation, and bridge installation in phases. Traffic control, utility coordination, and access are central to the approach. The grading plan addresses steep slopes and saturated clay soils through planned dewatering, cut/fill balancing, and material reuse to reduce off-site hauling. Hydraulic modeling informs the bridge span, channel geometry, and energy dissipation to ensure reliable performance. The overall goal is to deliver a safe, buildable solution that removes dam safety risk while improving flood conveyance and restoring ecological function.
