Description
Senior Design team “Next Part, Best Part” is working with Delta TechOps, the largest maintenance, repair, and overhaul provider in North America, to improve on-time deliveries of customer engines. The team is working to improve the queueing system for piece parts entering and moving through the repair & support shops in the engine maintenance process. Specifically, the team will be modeling the system using optimization and simulation techniques to test the impact of different queueing logics. Through data-driven decision making, the team will determine the best part to work on next and minimize the number of engines delivered late. Delta inducts around 300 engines for its customers per year. Many of the engines that Delta inducts miss internal deadlines rolling up to around $12.5M in penalties incurred. With data-driven queueing methods and application of ISyE principles, our team believes we can reduce these penalties.
